The card game Septica, a captivating gem from Romania, presents an intriguing challenge for players seeking to outmaneuver a sophisticated AI opponent. With its straightforward rules and fast-paced gameplay, Septica serves as an excellent pastime for moments of idle waiting, easily accessed on mobile devices.

Historically, the game's nomenclature reflects its heritage: "Sedma" and "Şeptică" translate to "seven" and "little seven," indicating the role of wild cards in gameplay. The term "zsírozás" or "zsír" stems from Hungarian, referring to the strategy of utilizing aces or tens in winning tricks. While the game's exact origins remain somewhat elusive—possibly tracing back to Hungary or Poland and later penetrating Czechoslovakia—it has undoubtedly evolved into one of the country's preferred card games.

Septica (or Sedma) belongs to the Ace-Ten group of point-trick games, where players earn points through aces and tens, along with potential bonuses for winning the last trick. However, Septica's play mechanics diverge significantly from traditional trick-taking games. Notably, suits do not factor into gameplay; a card may only be beaten by another card of equal rank or a wild card. Interestingly, tricks may extend beyond the conventional one-card-per-player rule under certain conditions.

Seven cards often serve as wild cards within this framework—emphasizing their significance in the game's title and structure. The interrelated nature of these games is evident, with the earliest documented instance being Hungary's Zsíros in 1930. Conversely, Finland's Ristikontra preserves an older card point system, leaving ambiguity regarding which game might be considered the common ancestor of this fascinating group.
